The challenges faced by Dr. Ambedkar in promoting Buddhism as a path to social liberation from "summary" of Dr. Ambedkar's Views on Buddhism: A Path to Social Liberation. by R.ANANDA RAJU

Dr. Ambedkar encountered numerous obstacles in his mission to advocate for Buddhism as a means of social emancipation. One of the primary challenges he faced was the deep-rooted caste system within Indian society. The rigid caste structure had been ingrained for centuries, creating a hierarchical system that perpetuated discrimination and oppression. Dr. Ambedkar recognized that this system posed a significant barrier to social equality and saw Buddhism as a way to challenge these oppressive norms. Another challenge Dr. Ambedkar faced was the resistance from traditional Hindu leaders and followers. His conversion to Buddhism was seen as a rejection of Hinduism, which sparked backlash and criticism from those who held power within the Hindu community. This opposition made it difficult for Dr. Ambedkar to promote Buddhism as a legitimate alternative to the oppressive social structures upheld by Hinduism. Additionally, Dr. Ambedkar had to contend with the lack of awareness and understanding of Buddhism among the Dalit community. Many Dalits had been raised within the Hindu tradition and were unfamiliar with the teachings of Buddhism. Dr. Ambedkar had to overcome this lack of knowledge and educate his followers about the principles of Buddhism in order to garner support for his vision of social liberation. Furthermore, Dr. Ambedkar faced challenges in establishing a new Buddhist community that could provide a sense of belonging and solidarity for those seeking liberation. He had to navigate the complexities of creating a cohesive community that could withstand the pressures of societal norms and support each other in their pursuit of social equality. Despite these challenges, Dr. Ambedkar remained steadfast in his commitment to promoting Buddhism as a path to social liberation. His unwavering dedication and perseverance in the face of adversity paved the way for a new era of empowerment and liberation for marginalized communities in India.
