Greg's Halloween costume backfires from "summary" of Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Diary of a Wimpy Kid #1) by Jeff Kinney
So for Halloween this year, I decided to go as a vampire. I thought it was a pretty good choice because vampires are supposed to be good-looking and charming, and I figured that was a pretty good fit for me. I borrowed one of Rodrick's capes and put some of Mom's white makeup on my face, and I have to admit, I was looking pretty sharp.
But things started to go downhill pretty quickly. First of all, the cape was really itchy, and I kept having to adjust it every few minutes. Then, when I got to the school Halloween party, I realized that just about everyone else had decided to go as a vampire too. It turns out I wasn't the only one who thought it was a good idea.
To make matters worse, this one kid named Jeremy decided to go as a ghost. He had this really cool costume that made him look like he was floating, and everyone was totally freaking out over it. I knew right then that I was going to be totally overshadowed by Jeremy and his stupid ghost costume.
But the worst part of the night was when I went to get some punch. I accidentally spilled some on my cape, and the red dye from the punch got all over the front of it. Now I looked less like a charming vampire and more like a vampire who just had a really messy meal.
To top it all off, as I was leaving the party, the cape got caught on a nail sticking out of the wall and ripped right down the middle. I tried to play it off like it was intentional and that I was going for a "modern vampire" look, but I don't think anyone bought it. So much for being the coolest vampire at the party.
