Greg's family goes on a disastrous road trip from "summary" of Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Diary of a Wimpy Kid #1) by Jeff Kinney

So, this one time, my mom got it into her head that our family needed to spend more time together. And the way she saw it, the best way to make that happen was for us to go on a road trip. This wasn't just any road trip, though. Oh no. It was a full-on disaster waiting to happen. First off, my mom had the brilliant idea to pack all our stuff into the car the night before we left. I'm talking everything - suitcases, coolers, the whole nine yards. The problem was, when we woke up the next morning, it was pouring rain. And I mean pouring. So all our stuff ended up getting soaked, which set the tone for the rest of the trip. Once we finally got on the road, things didn't get much better. My dad was in charge of the map, but he couldn't read it to save his life. So we ended up getting lost more times than I could count. And every time we stopped for directions, my mom would start freaking out about being behind schedule. But the real kicker came when we finally arrived at our destination - the hotel. Turns out, my mom had booked us a room at the wrong place. So we had to drive around for another hour trying to find the right one. By the time we finally checked in, we were all exhausted, frustrated, and just plain fed up with each other. So yeah, that road trip was definitely a disaster. But looking back on it now, I guess it did bring us closer together in its own messed-up way. At least, that's what my mom keeps saying. But personally, I think I'll stick to family game nights from now on.
