Greg's dad is clueless from "summary" of Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Diary of a Wimpy Kid #1) by Jeff Kinney
Every year on Halloween, my mom makes us kids go around the neighborhood with our dad so he can keep an eye on us. The thing is, my dad doesn't really get the whole trick-or-treating thing. He thinks it's stupid to go around begging for candy like a bunch of hobos. Last year, when we got to Old Man Frisk's house, he gave us each a toothbrush. Dad didn't see what the big deal was, but I knew he was clueless. I mean, who wants a toothbrush for Halloween? That's like getting a rock in your trick-or-treat bag. And then there was the time Dad tried to help me with my science project. I was supposed to build a model of the solar system, but instead of helping me, he ended up ruining the whole thing. He got mad at me because I didn't have Pluto in there, even though it's not considered a planet anymore. I tried to explain it to him, but he just didn't get it. When it comes to technology, forget about it. My dad is hopeless. He can barely figure out how to work the remote control, let alone help me with my computer problems. I remember one time he accidentally deleted all my school work because he thought he was clearing out some old files. I was so mad, but he just shrugged and said, "Oops." Despite all his shortcomings, I know my dad means well. He may be clueless sometimes, but he always tries his best to help me out. I just wish he would listen to me more and maybe do a little research before trying to give me advice. But hey, that's just how dads are, I guess.
