The idea that gross domestic product (GDP) can accurately measure the wellbeing of a society is deeply flawed. GDP simply measures the total monetary value of goods and services produced within a country's borders. It does not take into account many other important factors that contribute to the overall wellbeing of a society. For example, GDP does not consider the distribution of wealth within a society. Even if a country's GDP is growing, it does not necessarily mean that the benefits are being felt by all members of society.
