The transport layer plays a crucial role in ensuring reliable end-to-end communication. It is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and terminating connections between two communicating nodes. One of the key features of transport layer protocols is their ability to provide error detection and correction mechanisms, which help in ensuring the integrity of data being transmitted over the network. These protocols also implement flow control mechanisms to prevent the sender from overwhelming the receiver with data. By regulating the rate at which data is sent, the transport layer ensures that the receiver can process and acknowledge the data in a timely manner. This helps in preventing congestion and packet loss, thereby improving the overall reliability of the communication. In addition to error detection, correction, and flow control, transport layer protocols also handle segmentation and reassembly of data packets. When data is sent over a network, it is broken down into smaller packets for transmission. The transport layer is responsible for reassembling these packets at the receiving end, ensuring that the original data is reconstructed accurately. Moreover, transport layer protocols also provide mechanisms for multiplexing and demultiplexing data streams. This allows multiple applications running on the same device to share a single network connection, improving the efficiency of data transmission. By assigning unique identifiers to each data stream, the transport layer ensures that data is delivered to the correct application at the receiving end.- Transport layer protocols play a critical role in ensuring reliable end-to-end communication over network.
