Rubashov struggles to hold onto his own sense of morality, but the relentless pressure of the Party's power games threatens to crush him completely. As Rubashov grapples with his conscience, he is forced to confront the harsh reality that power corrupts absolutely. The struggle for dominance has led him down a dark path, where morality has become a mere inconvenience in the quest for power. In the end, Rubashov must decide whether to cling to his last shreds of morality or succumb to the darkness that surrounds him.
