True belonging only happens when we present our authentic selves from "summary" of Daring Greatly by Brene Brown

In order to truly belong, we must present our authentic selves to the world. This means showing up as we are, without wearing masks or pretending to be someone we are not. It requires vulnerability and courage to be seen for who we truly are, flaws and all. When we hide behind a facade, we may feel a sense of fitting in, but we will never experience true belonging. Authenticity is about being genuine and true to ourselves, even if it means risking rejection or disapproval. It is about embracing our imperfections and owning our stories, instead of trying to conform to societal expectations or norms. When we embrace our authenticity, we give others permission to do the same, creating a space where everyone can show up as their true selves. However, presenting our authentic selves can be challenging in a world that values perfection and conformity. We may fear judgment or criticism, leading us to hide behind masks and armor to protect ourselves. But true belonging requires us to let go of these defenses and be willing to be vulnerable. It is only through vulnerability that we can truly connect with others and experience deep and meaningful relationships. When we present our authentic selves, we attract people who appreciate us for who we are, not for who we pretend to be. These are the people who will support us, uplift us, and stand by us through thick and thin. In contrast, when we hide our true selves, we may attract superficial relationships based on superficial qualities, rather than genuine connection. In the end, true belonging is about finding a sense of connection and acceptance that is rooted in authenticity. It is about being fully seen and fully known, and still being loved and accepted. It is only when we have the courage to show up as we are that we can experience the deep sense of belonging that we all crave.
