Courage is essential for vulnerability from "summary" of Daring Greatly by Brene Brown

Vulnerability is often seen as weakness, something to be avoided at all costs. However, true vulnerability actually requires immense courage. It takes bravery to show up and be seen, especially when there are no guarantees of how others will respond. It means risking rejection, criticism, or failure, all while remaining open and authentic. Courage is the fuel that allows vulnerability to exist, as it provides the strength needed to lean into discomfort and uncertainty. Without courage, we are unable to fully embrace vulnerability and all the raw emotions that come with it. It is through courage that we are able to step into the arena of vulnerability and dare greatly. Being vulnerable means taking off the armor we have spent years building up to protect ourselves. It means exposing our true selves, flaws and all, to the world. This level of openness requires a great deal of courage, as it can leave us feeling exposed and unprotected. However, it is only through this vulnerability that we are able to truly connect with others on a deep and meaningful level. By mustering up the courage to be vulnerable, we are able to show up as our authentic selves and allow others to see us for who we truly are. This level of honesty and openness can lead to deeper connections and more fulfilling relationships. It allows us to be truly seen and known, rather than hiding behind a facade of perfection. In the face of vulnerability, courage is what allows us to keep showing up, even when it feels uncomfortable or scary. It is the willingness to be seen, even when there are no guarantees of how others will respond. It is through this courage that we are able to embrace vulnerability as a strength rather than a weakness.
