Focus on the present moment from "summary" of Dare to Forgive by Edward M. Hallowell

To truly forgive, we must learn to focus on the present moment. This may seem like a simple concept, but in reality, it can be quite challenging. Our minds have a tendency to wander, to dwell on the past or worry about the future. We get caught up in regrets and resentments, missing out on the beauty and opportunities of the here and now. When we focus on the present moment, we are fully engaged in what is happening right in front of us. We are able to let go of past hurts and future fears, allowing ourselves to experience life as it unfolds. This requires a conscious effort to bring our attention back to the present whenever our thoughts start to drift. One way to practice focusing on the present moment is through mindfulness meditation. By sitting quietly and paying attention to our breath, our thoughts, and the sensations in our bodies, we can train our minds to stay in the present. This practice helps us become more aware of our thoughts and emotions, allowing us to respond to them with kindness and compassion. Another way to cultivate present moment awareness is by engaging in activities that bring us joy and fulfillment. Whether it's taking a walk in nature, spending time with loved ones, or pursuing a hobby we are passionate about, these experiences help us stay grounded in the present and appreciate the richness of life. By focusing on the present moment, we are able to let go of the past and make peace with our pain. We are able to see things more clearly and respond to challenges with grace and resilience. It is in the present moment that we find healing and forgiveness, allowing us to move forward with a lighter heart and a deeper sense of gratitude.
