Creativity is a mysterious process. It involves summoning something out of nothing, making connections that no one else has made before. It requires a certain amount of freedom, a certain amount of space for ideas to flow and mingle. Without this freedom, creativity would be stifled, unable to flourish in the rigid confines of structure and rules. However, too much freedom can be overwhelming. It can lead to chaos, to a lack of direction or purpose. Creativity needs a framework, a structure within which to operate. This is where discipline comes in.
