Surrendering to God requires selfdenial from "summary" of Crazy Love by Francis Chan

If a random stranger approached you on the street and told you, "I want you to give me everything you own," you would probably find it absurd and laugh in their face. But what if God asked you to do the same? Would you be willing to surrender all that you have to Him? Surrendering to God requires self-denial, a giving up of our own desires and plans in order to fully submit to His will. It means putting aside our own selfish ambitions and seeking only to please Him in all that we do. This concept is not an easy one to grasp, let alone put into practice. We are naturally inclined to look out for our own interests and pursue our own happiness. It goes against our human nature to give up control and let God take the reins. However, true surrender requires us to let go of our pride and humble ourselves before Him. It means acknowledging that we are not the masters of our own destiny, but rather servants of the Almighty God. Surrendering to God means letting go of our own desires and trusting in His perfect plan for our lives. It requires us to lay down our own will and take up His, even when it goes against everything we thought we wanted. It means giving up our own comfort and security in order to follow Him wherever He may lead us. Self-denial is not a popular concept in today's society. We are bombarded with messages telling us to look out for number one and do whatever makes us happy. But true surrender to God requires us to go against the grain and swim against the current. It means denying ourselves and taking up our cross daily, just as Jesus commanded. In the end, surrendering to God requires self-denial because it is only through dying to ourselves that we can truly live for Him. It is a daily battle, a constant struggle to put aside our own desires and seek His will above all else. But in the end, it is worth it, for there is no greater joy than fully surrendering to the one who created us and loves us more than we can imagine.
