Focus on eternity, not temporary pleasures from "summary" of Crazy Love by Francis Chan
The world bombards us with messages telling us to seek pleasure and comfort in the here and now. Everywhere we turn, there are distractions and temptations enticing us to indulge in temporary pleasures that offer instant gratification. It's easy to get caught up in the pursuit of happiness through material possessions, relationships, success, and entertainment. But the truth is, all these things are fleeting and will ultimately leave us feeling empty and unfulfilled. As believers, we are called to live with an eternal perspective. We are reminded that this world is not our home and that our true citizenship is in heaven. When we fix our eyes on eternity, the things of this world lose their grip on us. We begin to see the temporary nature of earthly pleasures and the everlasting joy that comes from knowing and loving God. Our hearts are drawn to the things that have eternal significance, such as loving our neighbors, sharing the gospel, and building up the body of Christ. When we focus on eternity, our priorities shift, and we are no longer enslaved to the pursuit of temporary pleasures. We are able to find contentment and joy in the midst of trials and difficulties because we know that our hope is anchored in something far greater than this world. We are able to live with a sense of urgency, knowing that our time on earth is short and that we have a mission to fulfill. Our lives are marked by a radical commitment to God and His kingdom, and we are willing to sacrifice comfort and convenience for the sake of the gospel. In a culture that values instant gratification and self-indulgence, the call to focus on eternity can seem radical and countercultural. But as followers of Christ, we are called to live differently. We are called to set our minds on things above and to seek first the kingdom of God. When we do this, we will experience a deep sense of peace and fulfillment that far surpasses anything this world has to offer. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, and run with perseverance the race marked out for us, keeping our hearts and minds set on eternity.Similar Posts
