We are made of star stuff from "summary" of Cosmos by Carl Sagan
Carl Sagan beautifully illustrated the interconnectedness of the universe in his book 'Cosmos'. He explained that every single atom in our bodies was once a part of a star that exploded billions of years ago. As he put it, "The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars." Sagan described how these elements were forged in the nuclear furnaces of stars, through the process of nuclear fusion. When these stars reached the end of their lives, they exploded in spectacular supernovae, scattering their enriched guts across the cosmos. These stellar remnants eventually coalesced to form new stars, planets, and even life forms like us.
