Diplomacy must be pursued before conflict from "summary" of Common Sense by Thomas Paine

It is a common sense principle that when differences arise between individuals, they should first seek to resolve them through peaceful means rather than resorting to violence. This same principle holds true on a larger scale when nations find themselves at odds with one another. Instead of immediately turning to conflict as a solution, they should make every effort to engage in diplomacy and negotiation to find a peaceful resolution. Diplomacy allows for open communication and the exchange of ideas between countries, which can often lead to mutual understanding and compromise. By engaging in dialogue rather than confrontation, nations have the opportunity to explore various options and seek common ground that can benefit all parties involved. This approach requires patience and a willingness to listen to the perspectives of others, even when they may differ from one's own. Furthermore, diplomacy can help prevent misunderstandings and miscommunications that can escalate tensions and ultimately lead to conflict. By engaging in diplomatic discussions, nations have the opportunity to clarify their intentions, address concerns, and work towards finding solutions that are acceptable to all parties involved. It is important to recognize that diplomacy does not always guarantee a resolution to every conflict. However, by making a sincere effort to pursue diplomatic avenues before resorting to conflict, nations demonstrate a commitment to peace and a willingness to work towards finding mutually beneficial solutions. In this way, diplomacy can serve as a valuable tool for promoting understanding, cooperation, and stability in the international community.
