Diamond illustrates how societies that became too confident in their abilities and resources often ended up facing catastrophic collapses. One example he provides is the case of the Norse settlers in Greenland. However, their success eventually led to overconfidence. The Norse settlers failed to anticipate the limitations of their environment and resources.
