The two cities develop parallel to each other from "summary" of City of God by Saint Augustine (of Hippo)

In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, He also created two distinct cities: the City of God and the earthly city. These two cities have been developing parallel to each other since the dawn of time. The City of God is a heavenly city, filled with righteousness, peace, and harmony. It is where the blessed reside, worshipping God and following His divine will. On the other hand, the earthly city is a place of sin, corruption, and chaos. It is inhabited by those who have turned away from God and have chosen to follow their own selfish desires. These two cities exist side by side, each with its own inhabitants and its own destiny. Throughout history, the two cities have been intertwined, with the earthly city often clashing with the City of God. The earthly city seeks power, wealth, and glory, while the City of God seeks humility, love, and spiritual fulfillment. Despite their differences, these two cities continue to develop in parallel, each influencing the other in profound ways. As time marches on, the divide between the two cities becomes more apparent. The earthly city becomes more entrenched in sin and corruption, while the City of God shines ever brighter with the light of divine grace. Those who dwell in the earthly city may scoff at the City of God, but they cannot deny its existence or its influence on their lives. Ultimately, the two cities will reach their final destination. The earthly city will crumble and fall, consumed by its own wickedness, while the City of God will stand tall, triumphant in its righteousness and purity. Those who have chosen to align themselves with the City of God will be rewarded with eternal life, while those who have clung to the earthly city will face eternal damnation. In the grand scheme of things, the two cities are on a collision course, with the fate of humanity hanging in the balance. It is up to each individual to choose which city to align themselves with, for their choice will determine their ultimate destiny. The two cities develop parallel to each other, but their paths will eventually diverge, leading to vastly different outcomes for those who inhabit them.
