Change must be sustained over time from "summary" of Change or Die by Alan Deutschman
For change to truly take root, it must be maintained consistently over an extended period. Change that is not sustained is not really change at all. It is merely a temporary alteration that will eventually revert to the original state. This is because our habits and behaviors are deeply ingrained within us, and it takes time and effort to create new patterns that will endure over the long term. When we attempt to make a significant change in our lives, we are essentially rewiring our brains and retraining ourselves to think and act differently. This process is not easy, and it cannot be accomplished overnight. It requires dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to staying the course even when faced with challenges and setbacks. Research has shown that it takes at least 21 days to form a new habit, and even longer to solidify that habit into a lasting change. Therefore, if we want to truly transform ourselves and our lives, we must be willing to put in the time and effort required to sustain that change over time. One of the keys to sustaining change is to create a support system that will help us stay on track and hold us accountable. This could involve enlisting the help of friends, family, or a professional coach who can provide guidance, encouragement, and motivation when our willpower wanes. It is also important to continuously reflect on our progress and make adjustments as needed. Change is not a linear process, and there will inevitably be ups and downs along the way. By staying mindful of our goals and remaining flexible in our approach, we can adapt to any challenges that arise and keep moving forward towards lasting change.- Change must be sustained over time in order to truly take hold and become a permanent part of our lives. By committing to the journey of change, seeking support when needed, and staying resilient in the face of obstacles, we can create lasting transformation that will endure for years to come.
