Catherine decided to take action. She had been watching the situation in Crimea closely, and now the time had come to make her move. She knew that annexing Crimea would not be an easy task, but she was determined to succeed. She believed that it was in Russia's best interest to control the region, and she was willing to do whatever it took to make that happen. Catherine began by sending her armies into Crimea. She knew that this would not be enough, though. She needed to win the hearts and minds of the Crimean people if she was going to successfully annex the region.
