The Eightfold Path is the Buddha's prescription for right living. It isn't a set of commandments or rules to follow, but rather a practical guide to help us live in a way that is in harmony with the truth of life. The Path is divided into eight aspects, each of which supports and reinforces the others. It is not a linear progression where one step must be completed before moving on to the next. Rather, each aspect of the Path is interconnected and interdependent, working together to help us cultivate wisdom, ethical conduct, and mental discipline.
