Live with integrity and authenticity from "summary" of Buddhism Plain and Simple by Steve Hagen

Living with integrity and authenticity is a fundamental principle in Buddhism. It means being true to ourselves and others, and acting in a way that is consistent with our values and beliefs. When we live with integrity and authenticity, we are not pretending to be someone we are not or trying to impress others. Instead, we are honest and genuine in our thoughts, words, and actions. Integrity and authenticity require us to be in touch with our true nature and to act from a place of inner wisdom and clarity. This means being aware of our motivations and intentions, and making choices that are aligned with our deepest values and aspirations. When we live with integrity and authenticity, we are not swayed by external pressures or expectations. Instead, we are guided by our own inner compass, which points us in the direction of truth and goodness. Living with integrity and authenticity also involves being honest with ourselves and others. It means acknowledging our strengths and weaknesses, and being willing to learn and grow from our experiences. When we are authentic, we are not afraid to show our vulnerability or to admit when we have made a mistake. Instead, we take responsibility for our actions and strive to do better in the future. In Buddhism, integrity and authenticity are closely linked to the concept of mindfulness. Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and aware in each moment, without judgment or attachment. When we are mindful, we are able to see things as they truly are and to respond to them with wisdom and compassion. By cultivating mindfulness, we can live with greater integrity and authenticity, as we are able to see through the illusions and delusions that often cloud our perception.
  1. Living with integrity and authenticity is a path to inner peace and freedom. When we are true to ourselves and others, we are able to live with a sense of purpose and meaning. We no longer feel the need to put on a facade or to conform to societal norms. Instead, we are able to live in alignment with our deepest values and aspirations, and to cultivate a sense of harmony and balance in our lives.
