Let go of ego to truly understand reality from "summary" of Buddhism Plain and Simple by Steve Hagen

In order to truly understand reality, we must let go of our ego. Ego is the sense of self that we cling to, the idea that we are separate and distinct from everything else in the world. This sense of self creates a barrier between ourselves and true understanding. It clouds our perception and prevents us from seeing things as they really are. When we let go of our ego, we let go of our attachment to our own identity. We stop seeing ourselves as separate from the world around us, and instead recognize our interconnectedness with all things. This shift in perspective allows us to see reality more clearly, without the distortions created by our ego. By releasing our ego, we also let go of our desires and aversions. We no longer cling to our own preferences and biases, but instead see things as they are, without judgment or attachment. This allows us to approach reality with an open mind and a sense of curiosity, rather than with preconceived notions or expectations.
