Let go of ego to truly understand reality from "summary" of Buddhism Plain and Simple by Steve Hagen
In order to truly understand reality, we must let go of our ego. Ego is the sense of self that we cling to, the idea that we are separate and distinct from everything else in the world. This sense of self creates a barrier between ourselves and true understanding. It clouds our perception and prevents us from seeing things as they really are. When we let go of our ego, we let go of our attachment to our own identity. We stop seeing ourselves as separate from the world around us, and instead recognize our interconnectedness with all things. This shift in perspective allows us to see reality more clearly, without the distortions created by our ego. By releasing our ego, we also let go of our desires and aversions. We no longer cling to our own preferences and biases, but instead see things as they are, without judgment or attachment. This allows us to approach reality with an open mind and a sense of curiosity, rather than with preconceived notions or expectations. In this state of egolessness, we are able to see the impermanence of all things. We recognize that everything is in a constant state of flux, and that nothing remains the same. This understanding helps us to let go of our attachments and aversions, and to accept the ever-changing nature of reality. When we let go of our ego, we also let go of the dualistic thinking that separates us from the world. We see that there is no inherent distinction between self and other, subject and object, good and bad. Instead, we recognize the interconnected and interdependent nature of all things. This holistic perspective allows us to see reality in its fullness, without the limitations imposed by our ego. In the end, letting go of our ego is not about abandoning ourselves or denying our individuality. It is about transcending our limited sense of self and opening ourselves up to the vastness of reality. When we do this, we are able to see things as they truly are, without the distortions created by our ego. We are able to embrace reality in all its complexity and beauty, and to experience the world with a sense of wonder and awe.Similar Posts
