Practicing forgiveness leads to inner healing and peace from "summary" of Buddhism for Beginners by Thubten Chodron
In Buddhism, forgiveness is seen as a powerful tool for cultivating inner healing and peace. When we hold onto resentment and anger towards others, we are only harming ourselves. These negative emotions create a barrier within our minds, preventing us from experiencing true happiness and contentment. By practicing forgiveness, we are able to release these harmful emotions and free ourselves from their grip. Forgiveness does not mean condoning or excusing the harmful actions of others. It simply means letting go of the anger and resentment that we have been holding onto. When we forgive, we are not saying that what the other person did was okay. Rather, we are choosing to no longer allow their actions to have power over our own well-being. Through forgiveness, we are able to cultivate compassion and understanding towards others. We come to realize that everyone is capable of making mistakes, and that holding onto grudges only serves to perpetuate suffering. By letting go of our anger and resentment, we are able to open our hearts to forgiveness and create space for healing to take place. Inner healing occurs when we release ourselves from the burden of negative emotions. When we forgive, we are able to let go of the past and move forward with a sense of peace and freedom. We no longer carry the weight of anger and resentment on our shoulders, allowing us to experience a sense of lightness and clarity in our minds.- Practicing forgiveness is a profound act of self-care. By choosing to forgive others, we are choosing to prioritize our own well-being and happiness. When we let go of grudges and cultivate forgiveness in our hearts, we are able to experience a deep sense of inner peace and contentment. This inner peace radiates outwards, affecting not only ourselves but also those around us. Through the practice of forgiveness, we are able to create a more harmonious and compassionate world for all beings.
