Lessons learned from past experiences from "summary" of Born a Crime by Trevor Noah

One thing I learned from my mother is that life is not fair. She would always say, "Life is not fair," and I would roll my eyes because I thought she was just saying it to make me feel better. But as I got older, I realized she was right. Life is not fair. It's not fair that some people are born into wealth and privilege while others struggle just to survive. It's not fair that some people are treated differently because of the color of their skin or where they come from. Growing up in South Africa during apartheid, I saw firsthand how unfair life can be. I saw how people were oppressed and marginalized simply because of the color of their skin. I saw how my own mother had to fight tooth and nail to give me a better life than she had. I learned that life is not fair, but that doesn't mean we should give up. My mother never gave up. She taught me that no matter what obstacles we face, we must keep fighting for what we believe in. Another lesson I learned from my past experiences is the power of language. Growing up in a country with eleven official languages, I learned that language is not just a means of communication, but a tool of empowerment. Language can be used to oppress and divide, but it can also be used to unite and inspire. I learned that by speaking multiple languages, I could bridge the gap between different cultures and communities. I also learned the importance of resilience and perseverance. Despite the many challenges I faced growing up, I never gave up. I saw how my mother faced adversity with grace and strength, and I knew I had to do the same. I learned that no matter how tough things may seem, we must keep pushing forward. We must never let our past experiences define us, but rather use them as lessons to propel us towards a brighter future. In the end, the lessons I learned from my past experiences have shaped me into the person I am today. They have taught me the value of resilience, the power of language, and the unfairness of life. But most importantly, they have taught me that no matter what life throws at us, we must never give up. We must keep fighting for what we believe in and never let our past dictate our future. Life may not be fair, but that doesn't mean we can't strive for a better tomorrow.
