Developing resilience and strength from "summary" of Born a Crime by Trevor Noah

Growing up in apartheid South Africa, I learned early on that life was not going to be easy. My very existence was a crime in the eyes of the law, simply because of the color of my skin. But instead of succumbing to the weight of the system that sought to crush me, I chose to develop resilience and strength. Resilience, to me, meant finding the inner strength to keep going even when the odds were stacked against me. I saw my mother as the epitome of resilience - a woman who faced unimaginable challenges every day, yet never gave up. She taught me that resilience was not just about surviving, but about thriving in the face of adversity. Strength, on the other hand, was about standing tall in the face of danger and never backing down. It was about finding the courage to speak out against injustice and to fight for what is right, even when the consequences could be dire. My mother instilled in me the belief that true strength came from within, and that no one could take that away from me. Through the trials and tribulations of my childhood, I learned that developing resilience and strength was not just a choice - it was a necessity. It was what allowed me to navigate the dangerous streets of Soweto, to survive the harsh realities of apartheid, and to eventually break free from the chains of my past. As I look back on my journey, I realize that it was the lessons of resilience and strength that carried me through the darkest moments of my life. They were the pillars that held me up when everything else seemed to be crumbling around me. And they were the tools that ultimately led me to freedom and success. In a world that is filled with challenges and obstacles, it is important to remember that developing resilience and strength is not just a matter of survival - it is a key to thriving. It is what allows us to overcome the seemingly insurmountable and to emerge stronger on the other side. And it is what gives us the power to shape our own destinies, no matter what life throws our way.
