Conservation of plants from "summary" of BIOLOGY Simplified NCERT Class XI by Dr. Dileep Gangwar
It is important to protect plants and ensure their survival for the preservation of our environment. Conservation of plants involves the study of different elements which help in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. This includes taking necessary measures to reduce the harm caused to plants due to the activities of humans.- Plant conservation is a necessary endeavor to protect our planet and keep biodiversity high. Plant species are declining around the world due to human activities, such as deforestation, land clearing, drainage of wetlands and overgrazing. By taking steps to conserve plants, we can ensure future generations have access to this essential environmental protection.
- Conserve plants sustain ecosystems and their services like purification of air, water, soil etc. Plants also help in regulating climate and weather, providing food, fuel, timber and medicinal agents. Conserving plants helps maintain the overall structure, function and integrity of an ecosystem.
- To protect plant species, it is important to create nature reserves, legislate laws against destruction of habitat or natural resources through poaching, illegal logging, slash-and-burn farming, toxic emissions and also prevent uncontrolled growth of cities and industries.
- A partnership between governmental organizations and nongovernmental organizations should be established to monitor plant preservation locally and globally with the help of international groups like CITES and IUCN.
- It is essential to improve public awareness about the importance of preserving nature. Governments need to pass stringent laws that will penalize violators and provide incentives for people who work hard to preserve the environment.
- Invasive species are one of the key reasons for the decline in native plant populations, so controlling these should be a priority during conservation plans. Protection from alien invasions can be achieved by limiting commercial agricultural trade, impose strict checks on animals imported from another area and put up strong barriers on roads or rail lines which could spread the aggressively invasive flora.
- In addition, sustainable development must be adopted by private companies, local communities, farmers, policymakers, civil societies to balance human needs and environmental safety.
