The concept of detachment is a central theme in the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. Detachment does not mean that we should cut ourselves off from the world or become indifferent to the people and situations around us. Instead, it means that we should learn to let go of our attachment to the outcomes of our actions. We should do our best in whatever we do, but not be overly concerned with the results. Detachment is not about avoiding responsibility or being apathetic. It is about doing our duty without being attached to the fruits of our actions. When we are too attached to the results of our actions, we become anxious and upset when things do not go as we had hoped.
