Embrace detachment from "summary" of Bhagvat Gita, Song of God by Dr. Roopnarine Singh MD FRCPC

The concept of detachment is a central theme in the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. Detachment does not mean that we should cut ourselves off from the world or become indifferent to the people and situations around us. Instead, it means that we should learn to let go of our attachment to the outcomes of our actions. We should do our best in whatever we do, but not be overly concerned with the results. Detachment is not about avoiding responsibility or being apathetic. It is about doing our duty without being attached to the fruits of our actions. When we are too attached to the results of our actions, we become anxious and upset when things do not go as we had hoped. This can lead to negative emotions such as anger, frustration, and disappointment. By embracing detachment, we can free ourselves from the cycle of desire and aversion. We can learn to accept whatever comes our way with equanimity and grace. Detachment allows us to stay grounded and calm in the face of success and failure, pleasure and pain. Detachment does not mean that we should become cold and aloof. It means that we should cultivate a sense of inner peace and tranquility that is not dependent on external circumstances. We should learn to find joy and contentment within ourselves, rather than seeking it from the outside world. Detachment is not easy, especially in a world that teaches us to constantly strive for success and validation. But by practicing detachment, we can find true freedom and liberation from the shackles of our own desires and expectations. We can learn to live in the present moment, fully engaged in whatever we are doing, without being consumed by thoughts of the past or worries about the future.
