Control your mind from "summary" of Bhagvat Gita, Song of God by Dr. Roopnarine Singh MD FRCPC
To control your mind is to discipline your thoughts and emotions, to quiet the chaos that constantly swirls within us. It is the ability to focus your mind on what is truly important, rather than being distracted by every passing thought or feeling. This is not an easy task, for the mind is a powerful force, constantly pulling us in different directions, tempting us with desires and fears.
The mind is like a wild horse that must be tamed and trained. Without control, it can lead us astray, causing us to make impulsive decisions or to dwell on negative thoughts. But with discipline and practice, we can learn to harness its power and use it to our advantage.
In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna teaches Arjuna the importance of controlling the mind. He explains that the mind is both our greatest asset and our greatest enemy. When it is under control, it can lead us to success and happiness. But when it is allowed to run rampant, it can lead us to ruin.
To control the mind, we must first understand its nature. The mind is constantly seeking pleasure and avoiding pain. It is driven by desires and fears, by likes and dislikes. To control it, we must learn to detach ourselves from these fleeting emotions and desires. We must learn to see things as they truly are, without the distortions of our own thoughts and feelings.
One way to control the mind is through meditation. By sitting quietly and focusing on your breath, you can train your mind to be still and calm. Through this practice, you can learn to observe your thoughts without being carried away by them. You can learn to let go of negative emotions and to cultivate positive ones.
Another way to control the mind is through self-discipline. By setting goals and sticking to them, by practicing good habits and avoiding bad ones, we can train our minds to act in accordance with our values and beliefs. By being mindful of our thoughts and actions, we can learn to control our impulses and to make wise decisions.Controlling the mind is a lifelong journey, a continuous practice of self-awareness and self-discipline. It requires effort and commitment, but the rewards are great. By controlling our minds, we can free ourselves from the cycle of suffering and find true peace and happiness.
