The Dream is about the need to be brought into the fold of America, to be one of the "men" who are free. The Dream is the need to be a part of the great, ongoing, the historic inclusion. The Dream rests on the belief that they are white, that we are not, that I am white, that we are not. The Dream thrives on the erasure of history, on the denial of the racist practices that built this country, and on the insistence that those practices no longer affect our lives today. But the Dream is a lie, a delusion that only serves to perpetuate the suffering of black people in America.
