The true self is beyond thoughts and emotions from "summary" of Be As You Are by Sri Ramana Maharshi
The true self, which is beyond thoughts and emotions, is often obscured by the constant chatter of our minds. We are so engrossed in the never-ending stream of thoughts and feelings that we fail to recognize the silent witness within us. This witness is our true self, the unchanging and eternal essence of who we are. When we identify with our thoughts and emotions, we become entangled in the drama of our lives. We believe that we are the sum of our thoughts, emotions, and experiences. But in reality, we are much more than that. We are the silent observer, the pure consciousness that exists beyond the realm of thoughts and emotions. To realize our true self, we must learn to disidentify from our thoughts and emotions. We must recognize that they are fleeting and impermanent, while our true self is eternal and unchanging. By cultivating this awareness, we can begin to experience a sense of inner peace and freedom that transcends the ups and downs of life. Meditation and self-inquiry are powerful tools for uncovering the true self. Through introspection and self-reflection, we can begin to peel away the layers of conditioning and false identifications that cloud our perception. As we quiet the mind and turn inward, we can catch a glimpse of the pure awareness that lies at the core of our being. By detaching from our thoughts and emotions, we can access a deeper sense of self that is not dependent on external circumstances. We can tap into a wellspring of inner strength and resilience that empowers us to navigate life's challenges with grace and equanimity. In this state of pure awareness, we can find true peace and contentment that transcends the fleeting pleasures of the world.Similar Posts
