Consciousness is eternal and unchanging from "summary" of Be As You Are by Sri Ramana Maharshi
Consciousness is that which knows all experiences. It never changes; it is immutable. It is the eternal witness of all that happens. It is not subject to birth or death, growth or decay. It is always present, shining brightly and unchanging. This consciousness is the true self, the essence of our being. When we identify with the body and mind, we experience the limitations of the physical world. We become entangled in the cycle of birth and death, pleasure and pain. But when we turn our attention inward and recognize the eternal consciousness within us, we realize our true nature. We see that we are not the body or the mind, but the unchanging awareness that witnesses all experiences. This consciousness is not something that we need to create or cultivate. It is already present within us, shining brightly and unchanging. We just need to turn our attention inward and recognize it. When we do this, we experience a sense of peace and contentment that is beyond words. We realize that we are not separate from the world around us, but are one with it. The realization of this eternal and unchanging consciousness is the key to true freedom and happiness. When we identify with this consciousness, we are no longer caught up in the endless cycle of desires and fears. We are able to see the world as it truly is, without being swayed by our own likes and dislikes. We are able to act in a way that is in harmony with the natural flow of life. In this state of pure awareness, we are able to experience a deep sense of peace and contentment that is beyond words. We are able to see the beauty and wonder of the world around us, without being caught up in our own desires and fears. We are able to live in the present moment, fully engaged in whatever we are doing. We are able to experience the joy of simply being alive.- Shining brightly and unchanging. When we recognize this consciousness within us, we are able to experience true freedom and happiness. We are able to see the world as it truly is, without being swayed by our own desires and fears. We are able to live in a state of pure awareness, fully engaged in the present moment.
