The skull is comprised of several bones which protect the brain and support various structures of the head. These bones include the cranium, which encloses the brain, and the facial bones, which house the eyes, nose, and mouth. The cranium is made up of eight bones, including the frontal bone at the front of the skull, the parietal bones on either side, the temporal bones at the sides and base, the occipital bone at the back, the sphenoid bone at the base, and the ethmoid bone between the eyes. The frontal bone forms the forehead and roof of the eye sockets, while the parietal bones create the top and sides of the skull. The temporal bones house the ears and form part of the base of the skull, along with the occipital bone which supports the back of the head.
