It is the use of force to control the actions of individuals and businesses, to regulate their behavior, to dictate their decisions. It is the imposition of rules, regulations, restrictions, and prohibitions on the free exchange of goods and services. It is the violation of individual rights, the suppression of freedom, the destruction of competition, the distortion of prices, the misallocation of resources. It is the initiation of force against those who produce, against those who trade, against those who create wealth. Government intervention is based on the belief that the state knows best, that central planners are more capable than entrepreneurs, that bureaucrats are more competent than businessmen. It is the arrogance of power, the hubris of politicians, the conceit of collectivists. It is the denial of individual responsibility, the rejection of personal initiative, the disdain for individual achievement.
