Virtue is the foundation of a good and fulfilling life from "summary" of Aristotle's Way by Edith Hall

Aristotle believed that the key to living a good and fulfilling life lies in cultivating virtues. For him, virtues are not just about following a set of rules or principles, but about developing a certain kind of character that enables a person to flourish and reach their full potential. According to Aristotle, virtues are habits or dispositions that enable us to act in ways that are morally good and conducive to our well-being. These virtues are not innate qualities that we are born with, but rather skills that can be developed and honed through practice and repetition. Aristotle identified twelve specific virtues that he believed were essential for leading a good life. These virtues include courage, temperance, generosity, magnificence, magnanimity, ambition, patience, truthfulness, wit, friendliness, modesty, and justice. By cultivating these virtues, Aristotle believed that individuals could achieve eudaimonia, or a state of flourishing and well-being. Aristotle argued that virtues are the foundation of a good life because they enable us to make the right choices and act in ways that are conducive to our well-being. By developing virtues such as courage, temperance, and justice, we are better able to navigate life's challenges and obstacles, and to make decisions that are in line with our values and goals.
  1. Aristotle believed that virtues are the building blocks of a good and fulfilling life. By cultivating virtues and developing a virtuous character, individuals can achieve eudaimonia and experience a deep sense of satisfaction and well-being. Ultimately, Aristotle's philosophy teaches us that true happiness and fulfillment can only be achieved through the cultivation of virtues and the development of a virtuous character.
