Struggle for truth from "summary" of Animal Farm and 1984 by George Orwell

The struggle for truth is a central theme in both Animal Farm and 1984. In Animal Farm, the animals are oppressed by the humans and strive to create a society where all animals are equal. However, as time passes, the pigs begin to manipulate the truth to maintain their power. They change the commandments to suit their needs and rewrite history to erase their own mistakes. Similarly, in 1984, the Party controls all information and uses it to manipulate the truth. They alter historical records to show that they have always been in power and that their enemies are the ones responsible for all the suffering in society. The main character, Winston, works at the Ministry of Truth where he alters records to fit the Party's version of the truth. However, he soon realizes that the Party's version of truth is a lie and starts to rebel against it. Throughout both novels, the characters struggle to uncover the truth and resist the oppressive forces that seek to control it. In Animal Farm, the animals eventually realize that the pigs have become just as oppressive as the humans and overthrow them. They see that the pigs have manipulated the truth to maintain their power and that true equality is impossible under their rule. In 1984, Winston's struggle for truth leads him to rebel against the Party and seek out the truth about the past. He joins a secret group that opposes the Party and tries to uncover the real history that the Party has hidden. However, he is ultimately defeated by the Party's overwhelming control of information and power.
  1. Even when it is difficult or dangerous. The characters in both novels face immense challenges in their search for truth, but ultimately, it is their pursuit of truth that sets them apart from the passive masses who accept the Party's version of reality.
