Control of the past from "summary" of Animal Farm and 1984 by George Orwell

The Party's control of the past is absolute. They dictate what is true and what is false, what is right and what is wrong. History is rewritten to suit their current needs and to maintain their hold on power. Any evidence that contradicts the Party's version of events is destroyed or altered. The past is fluid, constantly shifting to align with the Party's ever-changing narrative. By controlling the past, the Party is able to control the present and the future. They shape people's perceptions of reality, making them believe whatever the Party wants them to believe. The truth becomes malleable, subject to the whims of those in power. This manipulation of history is a key tool in the Party's arsenal, allowing them to maintain their grip on society and prevent any dissent or rebellion. In Animal Farm, the pigs similarly manipulate the past to serve their own interests. They alter the commandments of Animalism to justify their actions and maintain their privileged position on the farm. By controlling the narrative of the past, they are able to control the other animals and keep them in line.
  1. The control of the past is a means of controlling the minds of the people. By rewriting history, those in power can shape how individuals think and feel about the present and the future. It is a tool of oppression, used to maintain the status quo and prevent any challenges to authority. The Party and the pigs understand the power of controlling the past, and they use it to devastating effect in Orwell's dystopian worlds.
