Leads pursued diligently were the lifeblood of the investigation into the Watergate scandal. As reporters at The Washington Post, our job was to follow any lead, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, in order to uncover the truth behind the break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters. Each lead, no matter how promising or potentially explosive, required careful and thorough investigation. We had to be meticulous in our fact-checking, making sure that every piece of information could be verified and corroborated.
