In the spiritual life, as in the ordinary world, we often find ourselves attached to expectations and outcomes. We have a tendency to cling to certain ideas of how things should be, how people should behave, how situations should unfold. This attachment can lead to suffering and disappointment when things do not go as planned.
Nonattachment to expectations and outcomes does not mean that we should not have goals or intentions. It simply means that we should not be rigidly attached to specific outcomes. We can have a vision of how we want things to unfold, but we must also be open to the possibility that things may not go as we expect. This flexibility allows us to remain present and engaged in the moment, rather than becoming fixated on the future.
