As the investigation continued, it became apparent that the trail was leading nowhere. Clues that had initially seemed promising turned out to be dead ends. Suspects who appeared to be involved in the crime were proving to have alibis that checked out. The more Detective Lane dug into the case, the more frustrated she became.
