The Earth's climate has been in a state of constant flux for billions of years. From the freezing depths of an ice age to the sweltering heat of a greenhouse world, our planet has experienced an astonishing range of temperatures and conditions. One of the most dramatic shifts in Earth's climate occurred around 50 million years ago during the Eocene epoch. This period was characterized by a much warmer climate than we experience today, with tropical forests growing as far north as the Arctic Circle. The oceans were also significantly warmer, allowing for the proliferation of coral reefs and marine life. However, the Earth's climate has not always been so balmy.
