When I took office, supporting veterans and military families was a priority. These men and women had put their lives on the line for our country, and the least we could do was ensure they received the care and support they deserved. That's why we worked to increase funding for veterans' health care and improve the services they received. We also made it a priority to reduce the backlog of disability claims, so veterans didn't have to wait months or even years to get the benefits they had earned. In addition to providing better care for veterans, we also focused on supporting their families. Military families make sacrifices too, often having to move frequently and deal with the stress of having a loved one deployed.
