As I traveled the country during that first presidential campaign, I encountered all sorts of people - young and old, black, white, Latino, Asian, and Native American; wealthy and struggling, conservative and liberal. What struck me most was not our differences but our similarities - the hope we all felt for a better future, the desire for a more inclusive and just society where everyone had a fair shot at success. This hope was not just wishful thinking but a powerful force that drove people to come together, to organize, to speak out, and to vote.
