Releasing identification with thoughts from "summary" of A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle

When you observe your mind, you may notice that it is constantly churning out thoughts. These thoughts can range from mundane everyday concerns to deeper existential questions. As humans, we tend to identify with these thoughts, believing them to be an accurate representation of who we are. This identification with our thoughts can lead to suffering and inner conflict as we become entangled in the stories and narratives created by our minds. To release identification with thoughts is to step back and observe them without getting caught up in their content. It is about recognizing that you are not your thoughts; you are the awareness that is aware of your thoughts. By cultivating this awareness, you can create distance between yourself and your thoughts, allowing you to see them for what they truly are: passing phenomena in the mind.
