Nursed back to health after being rescued from "summary" of A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer
Rescued, I was whisked away from the prison I had called home for so many years. The stench of my own filth no longer clung to my skin, replaced by the clean scent of soap and warm water. The bruises and scars that littered my fragile body were tended to with care and gentleness, as if I were a delicate flower in need of nurturing.
For the first time in what felt like an eternity, I was given proper meals to eat. Nutritious food that nourished my malnourished body and filled my empty stomach. Each bite felt like a blessing, a taste of the kindness that had been absent from my life for far too long. Slowly, my strength returned, my bones no longer protruding from my skin like jagged edges.
The warmth of a soft bed enveloped me, a far cry from the cold, hard floor I had grown accustomed to. I was tucked in with care, blankets pulled snugly around me like a cocoon. Sleep came easily now, no longer plagued by the nightmares that had haunted me for so long.
Doctors and nurses came and went, their faces kind and caring. They tended to my wounds, both physical and emotional, with skill and compassion. Their words were soothing, their touch gentle. They treated me not as a burden, but as a child in need of love and care.
Slowly but surely, I began to heal. The broken pieces of myself were slowly stitched back together, the gaping wounds of my past starting to close. I was no longer just surviving, but truly living. And it was all thanks to the love and care of those who had rescued me from the darkness.
