Neglected, starved, and humiliated from "summary" of A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer

Neglect is the absence of love, care, and attention. Growing up, I yearned for the simple gestures of affection that other children often took for granted. My mother's indifference was like a weight on my chest, suffocating me with its heaviness. I was starved not just of food, but also of the nurturing that every child deserves. Starvation is a cruel form of torture. The gnawing hunger in my stomach was a constant companion, a reminder of my mother's cruelty. She would deny me food for days on end, relishing in my suffering. I would scavenge for scraps, desperate to soothe the ache in my belly. The emptiness I felt was not just physical, but also emotional - a void that could never be filled. Humiliation is a sharp blade that cuts deep. My mother delighted in stripping me of my dignity, reducing me to nothing more than a punching bag for her rage. The names she called me, the insults she hurled my way - they etched themselves into my soul, leaving scars that would never fully heal. I was a mere object to her, a plaything to be tossed aside when she grew bored. The combination of neglect, starvation, and humiliation created a perfect storm of suffering in my young life. Each day was a battle for survival, a fight to hold on to the last shreds of my humanity. I was a shell of a child, a ghost haunting the halls of my own home. And yet, somehow, I clung to the hope that one day, things would be different. That one day, I would break free from the chains that bound me and find a way to live again.
