Enduring harsh punishments in isolation was a part of my daily life. I was forced to stand in the corner of the room for hours on end, my arms raised above my head until they ached with pain. I was forbidden to speak or move, left alone with my thoughts and fears. The silence was deafening, broken only by the sound of my own labored breathing.
