The desire for predictability is a common trait among humans. We like to feel in control, to know what will happen next. We seek out patterns and regularity in an attempt to make sense of the world around us. However, this quest for predictability can sometimes lead us astray. In our efforts to create a sense of order and certainty, we may overlook the benefits of embracing uncertainty and randomness. It is tempting to try to eliminate all sources of unpredictability in our lives, but this pursuit can be detrimental in the long run.
When we prioritize predictability above all else, we become fragile. We become overly reliant on stability and routine, making us vulnerable to disruptions and shocks. In our quest for control, we may inadvertently create more chaos and instability.
