When the Heavens Went on Sale is a science fiction novel by R. C. Blakes. The story follows Donnie Reynolds, an astrophysics student at Berkeley, whose dreams of discovering a new planet turn when he learns that a distant established planet is up for sale. To finance his journey to the planet, Donnie teams up with a corpulent, cigar-smoking entrepreneur, Hector Reyes, who has grandiose dreams of creating a universal economy, called the Celestial Bank. With the help of Hector’s daughter, a cyborg named Nancy, and a mysterious stranger from space, Donnie launches a thrilling journey to the distant planet. Along the way, he runs into aliens, finds himself hunted by a powerful space navy, and discovers a new form of energy that may spell the end of life as we know it. As the story progresses, Donnie and his companions race to decide the fate of the planet before the powerful forces of the universe claim it.
